The dry-wallers finished up today - the final coat has been sanded and they cleaned up - or at least by their standards they "cleaned up." Ben still had to do some wiping of the walls tonight with a damp cloth. And we are going to start painting tomorrow morning. Ben's Dad was going to help him paint, but since we are snowed in tomorrow (another 8-12 inches by the time this storm is done - the 3rd major storm in 11 days - we already have 7 inches and the wind will pick up overnight too), we thought we might as well get the painting started. So I'm going to help, which breaks my streak of getting away without doing any household painting in over 10 years. But since I'm not pregnant, and the kids are able to take care of themselves while we paint, I couldn't really find a good reason to opt out of helping. The kids want to help, too, so Ben got them each a little roller - assuming they can't do much damage on the primer coat. Hopefully tomorrow night I will be able to post pictures of the painting in progress.
We also had an appointment in Delaware today to pick out carpet - we went this morning before the snow got too bad. We have been discussing carpet for months, so had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, and were in and out in 20 minutes. We chose a "chocolate bar" berber, which is darker brown but not as dark as it seems. We wanted something durable, and darker so it wouldn't show dirt as easy, and we both agreed on this pattern right away. We also picked out and bought paint today, and soon need to pick out light fixtures for the bathroom and stairwell. Doing these decorating type chores really make it seems like we are in the final phase of this project, finally. We are anxious to have it completed!
