It was cold. Very cold and windy at 9:00 this morning. But at least it wasn't raining.
They don't really keep score in the soccer games at this level. Which was good for us today, because if they had, we would have lost by about 9-1. I'm certain about the 1 - may have lost count on the number of goals for the green team.
We played a team that was bigger, better, and faster. So they should have won. But they were also mean - elbowing our kids a lot. And rubbing it in when they scored. Their coach did nothing to stop this, so at one point our coach (Coach Keith) called over all the kids and told them they shouldn't play rough like that, we're all friends playing a game, etc. The result of this talk was that the green team kept playing exactly the same way, but our kids wouldn't even go after the ball - they knew if they got into a fight for the ball they would get elbowed and weren't allowed to elbow back. So it wasn't a great first game.
Later, Sam said "I wish I was on the green team." Ben talked to him about it being more important to be fair players and nice people and to play by the rules, but I don't know how much of it soaked in. He remembers how much the other team scored and gloated and won and it looked like more fun to be on the green team. Hopefully the rest of the season will go better.
P.S. No pictures - it was too cold to take my gloved hands out from under the blanket. We'll try to get pictures next week.

Just for the record, the final was 7-1. But it wasn't really that close.
