New School Visit

On Monday, December 1, Maria and Sam will be going to the new Fairbanks Elementary School which is located behind the Middle/High School where both Ben and I teach. They will be leaving the 90+ year old building that is literally falling apart. It's an exciting move for everyone, but a little scary for the kids too.

Friday morning all of the elementary kids were taken to the new school to look around for a few minutes, then brought back to the old school as community members helped to unload box after box after box of stuff and haul it to the rooms. Sam was sick Friday morning (really sick) and so he missed the visit. And he was very sad about it.

So today when I was doing my mandatory 90 minutes of helping unpack (don't ask), I stopped by and asked Dolly if she would mind if I brought Sam by later in the day so that he would get to see his room. She thought that was a good idea, so around 2:00 Ben came home and picked up both kids. And they loved it. Maria had seen the new building Friday, but it was empty and today looked much different. And Sam hadn't seen anything yet and was really impressed - he wants to have school tomorrow so he can go to his new school. It is a nice building - the rooms are so big and everything is so new and clean! And if you saw the building they were in, you would understand why this is so exciting to them.

It'll be nice to have something to look forward to so that maybe we won't dread going back after having this week off.
