Yesterday, in lieu of our usual Kids Christmas Party, we invited friends to The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and then back here for dinner. The Caseys, the Berkeys, and the Smiths all joined us for the play, and then everyone but the Smiths came back to our house afterward. We had Papa Murphy's pizzas to bake when we got back, and Telford got a head start on the pizzas, since he stayed at our house with Cole, who is 18 months and would not do well at an hour long play.
Everyone loved the play, and we think Maria had her best performance ever. The crowd was huge - extra chairs were placed in the front on the sides to accommodate everyone. And I think the cast really likes to perform for large crowds. Maria was also surprised that Lily, one of her good friends from school, was there to see the show as well.
Back at our house, after dinner, chaos reigned with 8 kids between the ages of 1 and 9 years old. Lots of dressing up and running around toting Nerf Guns and/or light sabers. Sam was the ring leader, and loved being in charge. By this time Maria was gone - back for another performance - and so Sam had to step in and be the host kid. And he loved it. Unbelievably, the only injuries were minor and came from Sean and Ryan, the Casey twins who are almost 3, beating on each other. We were assured this is a usual occurrence at home. Everyone left around 8:00, giving us time to clean up before Ben went to pick up Maria.
We had been sad that we weren't able to have the kids party this year - just no time with the Pageant, but we had a great time yesterday seeing friends and having time to visit (above all the screaming).
