Why Can't Anything Be Easy?

I have LASIK eye surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9:00. When the Surgery Center called they asked if that time would work out for us, and since we can drop the kids off at school at 8:00, we could just make it there by 9:00, and the early time meant that we would be able to get home in plenty of time to pick the kids up from school. And the weather is too warm for delays, so it should all work out. Right?

Wrong. There is a heating problem at the elementary building. Today they put the kids on the buses for a while and a Columbus Gas person came to check out a possible leak. Apparently they found the problem, but it can't be fixed until early morning. Which means the whole district is on a 2 hour delay.

So we called Jenny, Sam's Friday sitter. She can't help because they are leaving for Florida at noon (spring break starts Friday). We called Andy and Lisa -they both have 8:00 meetings so they had to call Lisa's parents in Marion to stay with Mason. Just as we were thinking that Ben and the kids would have to drop me off for surgery (in Columbus), bring the kids back here for school, then come back to pick me up, Lisa called back. Her parents were willing to keep Maria and Sam with Mason, and take them all to school. The kids know them pretty well and I'm not anticipating any trouble. We are so glad they are willing to help - otherwise Ben would spend all morning going back and forth!

The good news - for the last hour I have not had to worry about the whole laser cutting into my eyes thing - I've been too focused on what to do with the kids!
